Is the Audi RS e-tron GT Faster Than the Audi R8 V10 Performance?

Prior to the launch of the Audi RS e-tron GT, the R8 V10 Performance was the brand’s performance flagship. Now that the RS e-tron GT is here, it’s the new Audi media darling, thanks to its all-electric punch and spaceship looks. But is it actually faster than the older R8? In this new video from Carwow, we get to find out.

Carwow’s Mat Watson recently put the two cars together for his usual trial of tests. He drove the Audi RS e-tron GT, while the Audi R8 V10 Performance was driven by someone else on the other side. It must be noted that the R8 in the video was not the newest facelifted version but a pre-facelift version that’s been tuned to make the same power as the facelift.

The Audi RS e-tron GT is the most powerful car Audi has ever made, packing 646 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. We’ve seen it clock 60 mph in under three seconds before, ironically even at the hands of Watson. So we know it’s seriously quick. But we also know that the R8 V10 Performance can do the same, thanks to its 5.2 liter naturally-aspirated V10, putting out 620 horsepower and 383 lb-ft. So which is actually faster in the real world?

To be honest, the race wasn’t exactly fair. The Audi RS e-tron GT obliterated the R8 off the line, launching far better most of the races and continued to pull ahead as they neared the finish. It recorded a 10.9 second quarter mile time, while the R8 did an 11 second-flat time. However, the R8 seemed to mess up the launch every time, so it’s possible that its tune messed up the launch control or that there was potentially a driver error. Especially being that Watson recorded a 10.7 second time from an R8 V10 Performance before. Still, in this test, the Audi RS e-tron GT won.
