It’s impossible to write about the Audi RS e-tron GT without mentioning that it’s based on the Porsche Taycan Turbo. Both cars share the same chassis, same battery pack, and the same powertrain. But because the Taycan is a Porsche and came first, the e-tron seems to be stuck in its shadow. However, does it deserve its own spotlight?
In this new video from AutoTrader UK, Rory Reid compares both cars back-to-back to see which one is best. He goes over their performance, their handling, their interiors, and even their practicality, to see if one stands out from the other.
Without question, the Porsche Taycan seems to be the better driving car. It’s sharper, more dynamic, and even rides better. Both cars get from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, so neither is faster than the other. However, in terms of actual driving dynamics, it’s the Porsche that wins. Shockingly, despite the Audi’s softer suspension setup and taller ride height, the Porsche is a bit more comfortable, too. In the Audi’s defense, its Goodyear Eagle tires likely didn’t help it much, compared to the Porsche’s Pirellis.
Where the Audi RS e-tron GT shines is in its style and its interior. It’s mostly the better looking car, though an argument could be made that the Porsche’s front end is better. More importantly, the Audi’s cabin is far more functional and much easier to use, while the Porsche’s requires too much touchscreen use and is incredibly confusing.
In the end, Reid doesn’t actually end up choosing a winner, simply claiming that it’s a matter of taste. Which is actually good news for Audi, as it proves the RS e-tron GT isn’t just a rebadged Taycan. It’s actually a very different car that feels and drives differently. If you’re looking for a pure driver’s car, the Porsche is probably better. However, if you want a more comprehensive package, the Audi RS e-tron GT might be your choice. Plus, a set of new coilovers and better tires might fix its ride/handling balance.
