At the age of 50, we are eligible to join AARP for an annual $16 membership ($12 for the first year if you choose the auto-renewal option — that’s a 25% savings right there!). AARP can be an amazing value in many areas as we get older.
Through AARP, there are lots of great deals and discounts, and that’s where you’ll find a lot of the senior discounts you can get on clothing, food, travel and more. But, in addition to that, many retailers independently offer senior discounts. Some discounts start for those as young as 50, and others begin 55, 60, or 62.
Remember: As with all sales and specials, senior discounts can always change before you take advantage of them. We verified all the discounts below at the chain level, but don’t forget to call ahead and check when and how the senior discount at a particular restaurant or venue may work.
Don’t see a discount at your favorite restaurant or store below? When in doubt, just ask! There may be a fabulous deal or discount out there you don’t even know about. Plus find other specialized discounts to max out your savings, whether through birthday freebies, teacher discounts, student deals, or military promotions.
How to Get a Senior Discount
Senior discounts are a great way to get more for your money when living on a budget. But, like any deals and discounts, many will require you to fulfill special requirements. This is often as simple as showing ID to prove your age, but may also require showing an AARP card or some other form of membership. Some deals may require being a member of a shopping or other rewards or members club, so it’s always important to do your research and be prepared, so you don’t waste your time — and miss out!
At What Age Can You Get a Senior Discount?
This will vary depending on the venue and the deal. While some deals on this list are for those 50 and over, some require you to be 55, 60, 62 or 65. Be sure to check out the qualifying ages and if you fit them before trying to grab the deal. Otherwise, you’ll just have to hold tight until you are eligible!
