Audi Q6 e-tron Will Get Traditional SUV and Sportback Body Styles

Audi already confirmed that a Q6 e-tron SUV is in the works, being developed alongside the upcoming electric Porsche Macan. Now, though, there’s word that the upcoming Audi Q6 e-tron will get both SUV and Sportback body styles, just like its siblings.

In this new report from Autocar, Audi confirmed that the Q6 e-tron will get both body styles but will also compete in different segments.

“The Q6 e-tron will compete in a different market segment to the e-tron and e-tron Sportback,” a high-ranking Audi official told Autocar. “It’s smaller – roughly the size of the Q5. However, the dedicated [EV] platform will allow it to offer interior and load-carrying space similar to today’s Q7.”

That’s interesting that the Q6 e-tron will be sized closer to the Q5, being that the current Audi Q4 isn’t much smaller than the Q5. Still, thanks to its dedicated EV architecture, the Q6 e-tron will have the same interior space as the larger Audi Q7. Though, that’s not surprising, given that the Audi Q4 e-tron is smaller than the Q5 on the outside and yet has more interior space than the Q5, thanks to its own dedicated EV architecture.

The dedicated platform that will underpin the Audi Q6 e-tron will be the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture, which is a shared platform between Audi and Porsche. It’s also the platform of the future for both brands, as it will also underpin the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron.

No word yet on pricing or specs but that’s to be expected this early in the development process. Expect to see some sort of Q6 e-tron concept car sometime this year, with a production-ready model sometime in 2022. That’s sort of been the e-tron process for Audi thus far: debut a very production-ready concept shortly after its announcement, then the production car about a year later.
