Is the Audi RS e-tron GT Faster Than an Audi R8 V10?

[ad_1]

This new Audi RS e-tron GT is so much faster than expected. When it was first announced, Audi claims a 0-60 mph time in the high three-second range. However, some independent testing from several journalists has proven that it’s much quicker than that. In fact, the RS e-tron GT can hit 60 mph in under three seconds, with the right conditions. But is it fast enough to take down its own Audi RS sibling, the R8 V10 Performance? This new video from Auditography will show you.

The Audi R8 has been the brand’s performance flagship since 2008, when it originally debuted. It’s always been the fastest, most exciting, best looking, and most dynamic car in Audi’s lineup. So can it actually be beaten by an all-electric sedan?

In this new video, we see both the Audi RS e-tron GT and Audi R8 V10 Performance line up next to each other, on a closed stretch of road, for a drag race. Admittedly, there’s not a lot of transparency, here. We don’t know how far they raced, we don’t know if both cars used their launch control sequences (we assume they did but we don’t know for sure), and we don’t actually get to see which car was faster to the end of the race. However, we do get to see which car launched the best.

Off the line, the Audi RS e-tron GT simply obliterated the R8. Despite having similar power but weighing a lot more, the RS e-tron GT just walked away from the R8 V10 Performance, thanks to its instantaneous electric torque and immediate response. The R8 needs to rev up quite a bit before it can put its max power down, thus conceding a few tenths of a second to the e-tron.

I knew the Audi RS e-tron GT was fast because I’ve seen it in videos and I’ve read its specs. But I didn’t think it could embarrass an R8 the way it did in this video. I’ve driven the R8 V10 Performance and it’s sensationally fast. So the fact that the RS e-tron GT could do such a thing to the R8 is almost frightening. Looks like there’s a new performance flagship at Audi.
