Larger Audi e-tron SUV for Chinese Market Seen Testing

[ad_1]

Audi is going to be developing an electric SUV based on the Volkswagen ID.6, which is going to be the largest vehicle built on the VW Group’s MEB platform. For reference, the Audi Q4 e-tron is built on the MEB platform. We don’t know what this ID.6-based Audi is going to be called but we do know it won’t be called the Q6 e-tron, as that car will be built on the PPE architecture that underpins the upcoming A6 e-tron and Porsche Macan Electric. Instead, Audi is going to brand it something else entirely and sell it only in China. This new SUV was just spotted doing some testing and it looks just like an ID.6. (We don’t own the spy photos but you can see them here)

In terms of its overall body shape, this upcoming big Audi EV SUV looks a lot like the Volkswagen ID.6. It has Audi-specific headlights and taillights, as evidenced by the factory camouflaged car at the Shanghai Auto Show. But the rest of it looks very much like an ID.6.

There’s no word on what this car will be called but we know it’s not going to be the Q6 e-tron. It could have a “Q” naming structure, like the rest of its electric SUV siblings, but it also could get a different name entirely, to distinguish it from the rest of the lineup.

There’s also no official word on powertrain options but expect it to have the same powertrains as the ID.6. In China, the VW ID.6 gets a choice of two batteries; 58 kWh and 77 kWh. The entry level powertrain gets a single motor and 177 horsepower, while the optional dual-motor powertrain gets 302 horsepower. Obviously, no range figures were released for the Audi.

From what we understand, this new Audi e-tron vehicle won’t be coming to any other market outside of China. So don’t expect to see an Audi-badged ID.6 in the U.S. or Europe,
