For most Audi enthusiasts, the RS2 Avant is the stuff of legend. It was only made for one year, was partially developed by Porsche, and launched the “RS” name into the mainstream. There are no Audi RS cars today without the RS2 Avant. But it’s also rare, as Audi only built just under 3,000 examples, none of which made their way to the U.S. market. So while most Audi enthusiasts love the RS2, American Audi enthusiasts go positively bonkers over it. Which is why this 1994 Audi RS2 Avant is currently up for sale, with an eye-watering price tag.
Seen on Bring-A-Trailer, this Audi RS2 Avant is pretty much in perfect condition. It has about 138,000 km (86,000-ish miles), which wouldn’t necessarily be considered low mileage but the actual condition of the car is incredible. Everything from the paint, to the interior, to the engine bay looks fantastic for a car of its age and mileage. It was even serviced by Audi Tradition in Germany, back in 2017.
Porsche helped Audi develop the RS2 back in the early ’90s by tuning the 2.2 liter turbocharged four-cylinder to make 315 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque. When paired with a six-speed manual and all-wheel drive, the Audi RS2 was surprisingly quick off the line back in its day. Though, its 6-ish-second 0-60 mph time isn’t exactly great by today’s standards. It’s still plenty fast enough to be fun, though.
The Audi RS2 also received lowered, stiffer suspension from Porsche, as well as brakes from a 964-gen 911. It also received 964 wheels and some cool Porsche badges, so you’re friends will know that it does have some Porsche DNA.
This specific car currently has, at the time of writing this, five days left on the auction and a current bid of $75,000. That’s not too much higher than what I’ve seen Audi RS2 Avants sell for with this many miles. However, there are still five days left to bid, so this one is only likely to go up quite a bit during that time. Could this RS2 hit six figures? If so, that’d be the first I’ve ever seen to do so. Is it worth the money? I’m not so sure but the Audi RS2 Avant is a classic, one that will continue to appreciate in value while delivering a great driving experience in the meantime.
